What we collect.
Short version: no cookies, no accounts, no session recording, and nothing that identifies you personally. What follows is the long version, written from the code rather than from a template.
Who is responsible
PlayStoat is run by one person. For anything on this page, write to hello@playstoat.com.
Visiting the site
We measure how the site is used so we know which cities and sports are worth the work. Two tools do this, and neither sets a cookie.
- Vercel Analytics counts page views. It is cookieless and does not build a profile of you.
- PostHog, on their European servers, records page views and exactly two things you might do: clicking through to a venue, and switching between the grid, list and map views. Its identifier lives in memory only, so it is gone the moment you close the tab. Automatic click capture is off, so we see those two events and nothing else. Session recording is switched off in the code, not merely unticked in a dashboard.
Both are loaded through our own domain, so they work when a tracker blocker is on. That is about the numbers being usable, not about getting around your blocker: the same two events are sent either way.
Guessing your city
So the site can open on somewhere near you, our server reads the rough location our host derives from your IP address, at the moment you ask for the page. It is a country and a nearby city, not a street. We hand it to your browser to pick a city from the list and we do not store it, log it or send it anywhere else. Choosing a city yourself, or arriving with one already in the address, skips the lookup entirely.
Weather
When the site nudges you indoors on a wet day, your browser asks Buienradar and Open-Meteo about the weather. It sends the coordinates of the city centre, never your own position. We never ask your browser for GPS.
Fonts
The typefaces are served from this site. Your browser makes no request to Google or any other font host.
Forms
Adding a place, reporting a problem and sending feedback all use Tally. Their script is fetched the first time you open a form, so if you never open one, nothing of Tally reaches your browser at all. Whatever you type in a form goes to Tally and to us, and we keep it while we act on it. If you put your name or email in a form, that is the only way we would have it.
Venues and their contact details
The catalog holds business information: names, addresses, opening hours, prices and public booking links. That is not personal data about you. If you run one of these places and want a listing corrected or removed, write to us and we will do it.
In future we may contact venues about their own listing, using business contact details they publish. We would do that on the basis of our legitimate interest in keeping the information accurate, every message would say how to stop hearing from us, and we would stop on the first request. Those details would be kept only while the venue is listed.
Who else sees anything
Vercel hosts the site. PostHog holds the two events described above, in the EU. Tally holds what you type into a form. Buienradar and Open-Meteo answer weather questions about city centres. We sell nothing to anybody, and there is no advertising on this site.
What you can ask for
You can ask what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, and object to it being used. Because we keep no cookies, no accounts and no identifiers that outlive your visit, the honest answer for an ordinary visitor is usually that we hold nothing about you at all. If you have sent us a form, write to us and we will find it and remove it. If you think we have handled something badly you can complain to your national data protection authority.
Changes
If what the site does changes, this page changes with it, and the date at the top moves. There is no mailing list to tell you, because we do not have your address.
